Purpose of the role
- To generate positive publicity for the island of Ireland as a world-class tourism destination, and ensure strong brand appeal among US consumers, via the development of a planned programme of targeted activities.
- Work with Manager, Publicity and Communications to develop and activate Publicity strategy. Organise and oversee PR activities and ensure effective communication with stakeholders, media and consumers.
- To monitor and report clearly and effectively on publicity activities, track results to establish performance against agreed targets.
Note: This role will involve some travel and work outside normal business hours.
The Duties – Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Work with Publicity and Communications manager to create and activate programme of in person events and promotions as required i.e. Annual Marketing Plans Launch, Ministerial visits, Media receptions, campaign launch events etc.
- Organise and escort group press trips and film crews on location as required.
- Identify and initiate interest from journalists/ influencers to visit Ireland and participate in key media events both in Ireland and in the US. Evaluate level of assistance for visiting media in line with strategy. Create media platforms and develop itineraries with sister agencies FI and TNI.
- Build strong relationships and networks with colleagues, Tourism NI, Failte Ireland, industry stakeholders and media and answer queries from media.
- Work with Manager, Publicity & Communications to manage and integrate the Publicity aspect of marketing campaign activity / launches.
- Identify and nurture new media contacts to deliver incremental media coverage in line with business priorities – Luxury, Outdoor activities, Sustainable travel etc. Proactive outreach via in person attendance at media networking events e.g. International Media Marketplace (IMM); media conferences (OWAA; TBEX etc).
- Work with PR team colleagues to implement Tourism Ireland’s US Digital Publicity strategy working closely colleagues in managing digital, social and influencer partnerships, creation, and distribution of digital and social-first content, identifying new opportunities.
- Exercise the day-to-day duties of the press office including dealing with correspondence, providing insights for reports, research subjects for journalists requiring ideas and back up information for possible assignments.
- Key Account Management – source and develop Tier One press and corporate contacts and work with PR team members to ensure data is recorded and regularly updated.
- This job will involve extensive travel and unsocial hours. Post holder will also represent Tourism Ireland at industry, press and corporate events as required.
- Assist Communications Manager with training and support departmental Intern in their role including the use of internal database, reporting and evaluation tools. tools.
- Track media coverage and follow industry trends.
- Ensure adherence in your area of responsibility to the company’s GDPR compliance policies and procedures.
- Such other duties as the company may from time to time reasonably require.
The successful candidate will possess the following skills, experience and competencies
Essential
- Third Level Qualification (College Degree) in Public Relations/Marketing /Communication/Business or Media Studies.
- Experience and record of achievement in a media relations / PR Officer or similar role.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Track record of developing and delivering innovative and impactful presentations and an ability to produce high quality written reports and media materials, such as press releases, media pitches, briefing material, speeches, web casts, etc.
- Digital media skills – video and photo editing, blog administration, social media management Proficient in MS Office.
- Experience managing media relations (online, broadcast & print)
- Strong project management skills.
- A track record of building effective relationships with on and offline media, influencers, bloggers, and PR professionals.
- Strong interpersonal skills and team player.
- Excellent organisational skills with ability to prioritise and plan effectively.
- Budget management experience and demonstrable attention to detail.
- Strong team player.
