Job summary
Amazon is seeking a strategic, high judgment, and analytical communications professional with experience developing and executing earned media relations strategies for large, fast-moving organizations.

The PR Specialist, Customer Trust Media Relations will play a critical role in protecting and enhancing the reputation of Amazon by managing sensitive topics affecting its retail business, with the aim of retaining the trust of our customers, and maintaining their confidence in shopping in our store.

The ideal candidate will have significant expertise communicating to external audiences about issues that influence brand reputation, including deep experience with earned media strategy and media relations. The successful candidate will know how to identify, shape, and pitch compelling stories to various reporters and media outlets, as well as judiciously respond to incoming inquires following internal processes to engage spokespersons and gain messaging approval. They will think critically about how customer trust in Amazon fits into the broader context of the news environment.

This individual will work closely with colleagues on the Customer Trust PR team as well as earn trust with colleagues in Public Policy, Legal, and with senior executives within the North America Consumer business on reactive media relations and high-profile issues management. In addition, the role will support communications strategy, content development, and strategic proactive media relations.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience writing and developing press releases, reserved press statements and Q&As seeking input from multiple stakeholders. They should have experience with PR measurement, and exhibit high judgment decision-making to deliver results under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work cross-functionally to plan, lead and execute strategic cross-channel communications campaigns
  • Manage complex, fast-moving and unexpected communications challenges with high judgment and professionalism
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to organize, plan, and write reserved press statements, Q&As, press releases, blog posts and other content
  • Represent Amazon as a spokesperson when needed
  • Track and measure impact of communications programs

A day in the life

About the team
Under our growing Customer Trust PR team within Amazon’s Worldwide Communications organization, you will have dedicated support and mentorship from others as you deepen your media relations skillset and play a lead role in shaping Amazon’s approach to some of our most important reputational issues. You’ll work with directly colleagues in North America on news cycles and developing messaging, while liaising with colleagues in Europe and APAC as needed.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

BA or equivalent. 5+ years professional experience in PR or agency.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Seasoned communications professional within or supporting a large, fast moving organization
· Experience in or demonstrated understanding driving corporate reputation narratives with a keen ability to translate complex topics into messaging that resonates
· Ability to think and communicate clearly and be able to formulate a clear viewpoint on complicated issues, creating a concise and well-written narrative to express this opinion
· High business acumen with an ability to see around corners for longer-range communications implications
· Comfort with issues management and mitigation
· Experience leveraging data and insights in the shaping of integrated communications strategies
· Fast thinker with a bias for action
· PR agency experience a plus
· Experience driving awareness for Internet, technology or retail companies
