The Department of Communication at William Paterson University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a specialization in Public Relations. Start date is September 1, 2018.
The position is responsible for teaching classes in Public Relations including: public relations writing, case studies, campaigns, digital and social media communication and other courses in the core curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Opportunities exist for new course development and special topics offerings at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The successful candidate must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field, with a terminal degree in Communication or related discipline preferred (ABD candidates will be considered but the Ph.D. must be obtained by September 1, 2018), or a Master’s degree with substantial professional experience in public relations and/or marketing. Professional public relations experience is required. Current ties to the professional community to support classroom activities, student career development, internships and cooperative opportunities are viewed favorably. Evidence of communication and/or public relations-related scholarship and/or a track record of professional publishing activity is required. A minimum of two years of teaching experience at the college level preferred.
The successful candidate is expected to maintain an active peer-reviewed creative and/or research agenda; participate in the life of the university contributing to curriculum development; serve on committees; advise students; and attend University and College functions.
