Volunteer Center of Bergen County Job Description – Senior Director, Programs Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Director of Programs is a key member of the Volunteer Center’s senior management team. He/She works closely with the Executive Director and Director of Development to ensure that organizational goals are being met. Responsibilities The Senior Director of Programs is responsible for the organization’s overall programming. S/he serves as the Director of the Bergen LEADS civic leadership program and oversees five (5) established programs with approximately 11 staff members who are engaged in program planning, development and execution. S/he thinks strategically and practically about current program effectiveness and future program directions, with an eye toward marketing opportunities.

The Senior Director’s key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Directing the Bergen LEADS civic leadership program; working closely with the Seminar Director, Leadership Consultant and Advisory Panel to strategize, plan , deliver and evaluate curriculum; recruit/select particpants; lead associated programs such as Bergen LEADS Fifth Friday and Teen LEADS; and market all aspects of the Bergen LEADS program. • Overseeing the management of existing programs, including Business Volunteer Connect, Community Volunteer Services (including database of volunteer opportunities, youth services and holiday programs), Mentoring Youth, Mentoring Moms and Chore Service. • Overseeing program research, evaluation and reporting. • Analyzing viability and sustainability of all programs; developing synergies to maximize sustainability. • Developing budgets and allocating resources for new and existing programs. • Thinking strategically with regard to current programs and emerging program opportunities for the Volunteer Center. • Providing direction on program design and encouraging programmatic synergies. • Working with the Development Department to develop funding proposals. • Working with the Marketing Committee and staff marketing team to develop and deliver marketing strategies that maximize targeted exposure, both for programs and for the organization as a whole. • Ensuring that volunteer support and training are integral to all programs. • Evaluating and, if appropriate, overseeing implementation of new program ideas generated internally or through mission-related funding opportunities.

Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree, with graduate degree strongly preferred. • Significant record of success in designing and implementing non-profit programs. • Significant supervisory experience. • Outstanding writing and analytical skills. • Familiarity with and interest in Volunteer Center programs and methods of volunteering. • Familiarity with the Bergen County non-profit landscape. • Experience and comfort with budget development and oversight.
